July 28, 2022 - Crest celebrated its largest-ever class of student interns with a National Intern Day event designed to help student team members build relationships, expand their leadership skills, and gain feedback from other participants in this year’s internship program.
This year, we welcomed 30 student interns and summer helpers to our teams across the Crest Industries Family of Companies.
“Having these students on our teams is so important,” says Sarah Sasser, Director of Talent Development at Crest. “These students support our teams in manufacturing facilities, offices, and remote settings across the country. They help us to continue to live our values by welcoming new perspectives and innovative ideas while also allowing them to grow by expanding their own networks, technical skillsets, and leadership abilities.”
The summer internship program brings together students from various backgrounds, disciplines, and universities to share their unique perspectives and help our Crest Family to learn and grow along with them. Students get practical, hands-on experience that gives them a competitive advantage and kickstarts their professional journey and future success.
Intern Tyler Melder is proud of the work he’s done this summer supporting the teams at DIS-TRAN Steel. “I’ve been in charge of shipping all steel products made in one of the plant fabrication shops,” he says. “You can tell Crest is a growing company with a very bright future. The teamwork and support allow you to complete goals faster and keep everyone on the same page throughout the process.“
“I love hearing our interns talk about their experiences and seeing their perspectives,” says Nikki Edwards, Talent Acquisition Specialist and a coordinator for the internship program. “They really are making an impact on their teams, and I’m glad we can all get together to show how much we appreciate them.”
Jada Lewis, Project Management Intern at Beta Engineering and student at Louisiana Tech, says, “without teamwork, the units wouldn’t run as smoothly. Everyone plays a part in making the bigger picture come together.”
The celebration itself was even planned by the 2022 Crest HR Marketing Intern, Chloe Kress - a high school student from Rapides Parish, with support and direction from the Crest Talent Management and Marketing teams.
“I’ve definitely learned a lot,” says Kress. “The people here are all so welcoming and willing to help whenever you need it. It’s not just a job, they actually want us to be here and grow over the summer. And that’s what today was about - getting to know the other interns, connecting us across Crest, and learning how to grow [as a leader].”
“Today was a great day where we saw that the Crest team is continually invested in our internship class,” says Kent Milton, DIS-TRAN Steel Intern and current student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
